The Wednesday inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden will take place with the most security the nation’s capital has seen since the Civil War era.
About 25,000 members of the National Guard are expected in Washington, D.C., by the time Biden takes the oath of office as the 46th president of the United States.
Their mission: “to support the Presidential Inauguration National Special Security Event federal law enforcement mission and security preparations, as led by the U.S. Secret Service,” according to the National Guard.
