Will Smith is one of the most popular actors in the world today. Before becoming a television star with the “Fresh Prince Of Bel Air”, Smith was a popular rapper for his comedic timing in music videos for songs like “Parents Just Don’t Understand”. He became hip hop’s first Grammy award winner for his early work and became a legend before the big screen for the genre.
Joyner Lucas paid homage to the icon with the music video entitled “Will”. It is Smith’s classic cinematic looks is what Joyner used to express his fandom of the “Fresh Prince”. It wasn’t just the visuals, but also the lyrics that showed tribute with “I’m in Cali with a vest, that’s the wild Wild West,” he raps, sliding in a reference to the oft-maligned yet strangely appealing steampunk western. “They must not know me, they cannot control me ’cause I ain’t no I, Robot,” he continues, before declaring Smith to be his idol. “Yeah, I grew up on a legend and I gotta show it.”
Will Smith got wind of the music video and took to instagram to show gratitude to the ADHD rapper by saying “Joyner Lucas, yo, that joint is crazy.!”. Smith who is in quarantine with the rest of the world continued saying “Dude, I am humbled and honored. One of the lines you say in there, ‘you inspire people and you don’t even know it.’ It has been my intention from day one to go into the world and put positive energy and be able to use my creations to inspire and elevate and empower. I just love what you’ve done, it’s creative. Brother, I’m humbled and hope to meet you one day.”
