Certified Stunna on “Better For You” and His Upcoming Album
Certified Stunna Turns Heartbreak Into Music and Prepares His Next Chapter
For Certified Stunna, music is a way to turn personal experiences into something other people can recognize in themselves.
In a conversation with WorldWide Entertainment TV, the independent artist discussed growing up in New York, building his life in North Carolina, and using music to express heartbreak, difficult friendships, and personal perspective. He said the people he could trust while growing up remain part of his life, while those experiences also shaped the stories he puts into his songs.
Certified Stunna began rapping at his middle-school lunch table. He said he had always been passionate about music, but the possibility of making it himself became real when he started listening closely and thought, “I could really do this.” His early rapping eventually led him to explore recording and the studio process.
The message behind “Better For You”
Certified Stunna pointed to “Better For You” as the release that best represents the sound he is developing. The song addresses the difficult decision to end a relationship, even when letting go hurts.
“When it’s time to let go, even though it’s hard, you have to let go,” he said. “Because it’s gonna be healthier for you and the other person.”
He described songwriting as a process that often begins with a beat, followed by writing and experimentation. He then adds personal details and shapes the song through trial and error. Writing about heartbreak can help him process emotions, he said, even as it brings some of those feelings back.
The artist also wants his music to reach listeners who have experienced similar situations. He said people have contacted him to share that his songs helped them, which matters because it shows they listened to his words and connected them to their own lives.
Influences and versatility
Certified Stunna named Juice WRLD, Tory Lanez, and A Boogie as influences, pointing to their use of melody and emotional expression. He said Juice WRLD’s ability to explain personal struggles to listeners stands out to him.
He describes himself as an artist who moves between rapping and singing. His catalog includes heartbreak songs as well as records aimed at different moods and audiences. He said he wants to tell stories while maintaining the flexibility to move between styles.
The “Better For You” remix features Eelmatic, whom Certified Stunna praised for contributing to the record. He encouraged new listeners to start with the original or the remix.
Building independently and looking ahead
Certified Stunna spoke about the challenge of getting people to take an artist’s vision seriously. His advice to emerging artists was to stay true to themselves and make music that reflects who they are. Not every song will connect with every listener, he said, but artists can find an audience by being distinctive.
He is currently working on an album titled All Is Unforgiven, which he expects to contain 13 or 14 tracks. He said more music and visuals are also on the way.
When asked what he hopes listeners feel after hearing his music, Certified Stunna answered with one word: understanding. He said he puts his all into the music and wants people to hear the perspective behind it.
Certified Stunna’s music is available on major streaming platforms. He can be followed on social media at @certifiedstunna315.
