For years, female-rap conversations have repeatedly returned to one question:

Who is the real Queen of Rap?

The debate is often framed as if only one woman can hold the title—and as if celebrating one artist requires diminishing another.

Big Mama German offered a different interpretation during her appearance on WorldWide Entertainment TV’s The Shea Marie Podcast.

Rather than treating the crown as one permanent possession, the South Carolina-born artist argued that different women can represent different generations of hip-hop.

“It doesn’t have to just be one person.”

Her answer shifts the conversation away from a never-ending battle and toward lineage.

Queen Latifah Represented an Earlier Era of Rap Royalty

Big Mama German specifically identified Queen Latifah as a queen of her era.

Latifah’s authority did not come from following the same path later associated with Lil’ Kim or Nicki Minaj. Her reign was built through commanding lyricism, social consciousness, confidence and a regal presentation that made “Queen” feel like more than a stage name.

Big Mama German also revealed that Black Reign is her favorite Queen Latifah album and placed Latifah among the women who helped expand the possibilities available to female rappers.

The point is not that Latifah must defeat every woman who came afterward in a modern popularity contest.

Her place comes from what she represented when her voice entered the culture.

Lil’ Kim Changed the Presentation of Women in Rap

Big Mama German described Lil’ Kim as one of the most important artists in the evolution of female rap.

In her assessment, Kim brought a new level of glamour, femininity, aggression and sexual confidence into hip-hop. She could be stylish and provocative while still confronting men directly through her lyrics and delivery.

That combination helped redefine what commercial female rap could look and sound like.

Kim’s influence remains visible in fashion, imagery, performance and the unapologetic personas adopted by later generations.

Her era did not erase Queen Latifah’s. It introduced another model of rap royalty.

Nicki Minaj Created Another Cultural Reset

Big Mama German also gave Nicki Minaj her full respect.

She praised Nicki’s animation, character work, playfulness and bars, arguing that listeners can sometimes become so focused on the theatrical presentation that they overlook the technical skill underneath it.

Big Mama German later declared that Nicki would “forever be the queen,” even as she expressed confidence that she could earn a queen title of her own in the future.

She described her ambition as another potential “cultural reset” and said that bars, live performance, music and plaques would all be necessary to reach that level.

That position is competitive without being dismissive:

Nicki Minaj’s legacy can remain secure while another artist builds a new era.

Can Hip-Hop Have Several Queens?

Big Mama German’s argument rests on the idea that cultural authority is not always exclusive.

She named Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj as continuing queens while recognizing Queen Latifah’s reign in an earlier generation. In her view, any artist who reaches the required level of impact, stature and achievement can earn that position.

That does not mean the title should be handed to everyone.

Big Mama German’s own standards remain demanding:

• Quality music
• Commercial accomplishments
• Cultural impact
• The ability to open doors for others

She also argued that queenship includes responsibility. An artist should build her own career while creating new possibilities for the women who follow her.

Moving Beyond Nicki Minaj Versus Lil’ Kim

The internet often reduces female-rap history to one permanent Nicki Minaj-versus-Lil’ Kim argument.

That framing overlooks decades of women whose influence cannot be measured through one comparison alone. Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott, Eve, Foxy Brown, Trina, Kim and Nicki each expanded the form differently.

Big Mama German’s answer offers a more productive question:

Instead of asking which queen must be erased, why not examine what each queen contributed to her era?

Queen Latifah represented authority and purpose.

Lil’ Kim transformed glamour, sexuality and confrontation.

Nicki Minaj combined characters, theatricality, technical delivery and mainstream dominance.

Their crowns do not have to be identical to remain meaningful.

Big Mama German Wants to Enter the Lineage

Big Mama German is not positioning herself only as a commentator on the women who came before her.

She believes she can eventually enter that lineage.

During the interview, she predicted that she could earn the Queen of Rap title within the next few years and promised something audiences have not experienced before.

Her closing declaration was direct:

“I’m the bomb.com.”

Whether listeners agree with that prediction will depend on the music, performances and cultural impact that follow.

But her broader argument is already clear:

Hip-hop history is large enough to remember more than one queen.
